On the Road

In the spirit of the fiftieth anniversary of Jack Kerouac's generation defining novel, we'll be putting a few miles on the ol' Cherokee this weekend. Well, not really - I doubt that Tim knows that author or book - but it feels like a good literary reference, and we will be visiting most corners of the Commonwealth by Monday (but not Lowell).

Amy and I arrived tonight and will be picking Tim up at 7AM Saturday for the first of several adventures this weekend. He looks great, big smile on his face, had some tales to tell. Uncle John took him out to dinner at Harvard Gardens tonight and Tim had a great time. We'll have a lot of windshield time this weekend, Amy has charged the battery for her camera and I hope to have lots to add over the next few days.

Quite a Journey

Tim,
It has been quite a journey...you've been thru so much and made so much progress in a seemingly small amount of time which likely has felt like an eternity. I'm sure you are mixed with emotion as you approach a discharge date...moving on comes with finality of some things and uncertainty of others. I'm sure you have learned so much about yourself, your family, your community. I'm sure you have learned more than you ever wanted about what makes a good care giver, nurse, doctor, or medical facility. I'm sure your fears are as strong as your confidences. I'm also sure that your life will be full and exciting. I'm sure of this from reading about you & your journey thru the eyes of your father, ever devoted to documenting your accomplishments in a way that only a father could do for his son.
VERY best of luck moving forward. I can "feel" your new found love of Beantown. If you end up coming back...know that your TGIF family is never further than a call away!

From the East and From the West

Wednesday morning and I'm about to hit the road back home from KC. Amy will be heading west to meet me this evening in Albany. I'm feeling a bit disconnected from Tim this week - I haven't been away from him for more than four days and by the time I see him Saturday it will be two weeks. There will be a lot to catch up on.

Planning continues for Tim's release - transportation, outpatient arrangements, renovations etc. It's going to be a busy couple of weeks for Tim and Amy. Tim continues to improve - his walking has now extended beyond the walls of the therapy gym and he is able to walk in the hallways of the ninth floor. It leaves him exhausted, but ............ On Tuesday, Amy drove Tim to MIT for a campus tour, as he begins to evaluate how his injury will affect his post-high school plans.

That's it for now

Space filler

Here I am, still in KC, at just 9PM and feeling like it's late due to the one hour time zone change, followed by the Daylight Savings change. Amy headed back this morning and will head out to Spaulding in the morning. She reports that a Bobcat - small excavator - is in our driveway. Looks like something is getting started soon.

We spoke with Tim yesterday and today - pretty routine stuff, and he is continuing to put together his plans to be home for Thanksgiving. He had a nice visit today with Jancy and cousin Lily, including taking in a movie over on the Common.
